Fulshear's Youth Advisory Commission meets at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, and the biggest item on its agenda is choosing the project it will work on for the rest of the school year.
The proposed project
At the commission's September meeting, members floated ideas about public safety, water conservation, youth wellness, recreation and civic engagement. According to the city's memo for Thursday's meeting, they settled on community connectivity and volunteer engagement as the likely focus.
The idea is to connect local nonprofits and community groups that need volunteers with students who want them, whether to meet school service requirements, build leadership experience or just get more involved in town. The memo says the commission may look at building a central resource or volunteer hub where students can find open opportunities.
Forever Fulshear is named as one possible partner, along with other local groups that organize community service. City staff recommend that the commission formally adopt the project first, then work out what it will deliver, who it will partner with and how success will be measured.
Also on the agenda
- A presentation from the city's Utilities Department.
- Appointing members to two new committees. One will look for ways to raise money for commission activities. The other will work with city staff on how to reach local youth through digital media.
- Confirming who wants to attend the 2027 Texas Youth Advisory Commission Summit, set for Feb. 26–28, 2027, in San Marcos. The memo says the city will pay registration, and members cover their own travel and personal costs.
- Upcoming volunteer opportunities. At the September meeting, staff pointed members to National Night Out and Fulshear's Folly.
