The short version

  • Trash and recycling: every Wednesday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Carts at the curb by 7:00 a.m.
  • Hauler named by the city: GFL. Service described is inside the city limits.
  • Holiday on the regular trash day: pickup the following Saturday.
  • Bulk items that will not fit in the cart, once broken down, go beside the cart on Wednesday.

Who picks it up

The city's garbage and recycling page says GFL (Green for Life, formerly WCA) is the only approved solid waste franchise inside the city limits. The page calls the arrangement an exclusive three-year franchise contract and does not give a start or end date. The solid waste FAQ says the same thing about GFL being the only approved provider in the city limits.

Both pages say residential service is billed at $16.73 ($11.44 for trash and $5.29 for recycling), subject to tax. The garbage page dates that fee to the fiscal year that began October 1, 2023, and points to Ordinance No. 2023-1409. The FAQ states the same dollar amount. This page has no newer fee schedule from the city.

GFL provides 95-gallon carts for trash and recycling. The two city pages describe the lid colors differently, so this guide does not pick a color. The garbage page says unapproved carts are not serviced. An extra cart is a one-time $95 charge. The garbage page says to call customer service at 281-346-8830. The FAQ lists the same number for the Utility Billing Department.

Carts stay with the address. The city says customers pay for the service whether they use it or not, and that a delinquent account can draw a citation.

Bulk and heavy items

Both city pages say large items that will not fit in the cart, once broken down, should be set beside the carts for the Wednesday pickup. If an item is too large, GFL flags it with a yellow tag and information on a special collection. A yellow tag is not required to schedule that special collection. The garbage page says to schedule it with customer service.

Recycling

Recycling is included in the monthly bill. The garbage page says a resident who does not want recycling can submit a Recycling Service Opt Out Agreement with a government-issued photo ID. The FAQ says residents can opt out only when the solid waste account is created, and can opt in at any time.

The garbage page lists these materials as not accepted in recycling:

  • Plastic bags
  • Styrofoam
  • Wrapping paper
  • Used pizza boxes
  • Coat hangers
  • Paint and solvent containers
  • Light bulbs
  • Mirrors, windows, dishes, cups, and Pyrex pans
  • Wet or soiled paper
  • Paper towels, facial tissue, and toilet tissue
  • Disposable plates and cups
  • Paper milk and juice cartons (waxed paperboard containers)

The same page links a recycle dos and don'ts document for what to put in the cart. It also points residents to Fort Bend County for certain e-waste. Doorstep pickup is available with medical documentation and city approval. The FAQ says the documentation goes to the city so trash and recycling can be collected from a designated door.

Holidays

The FAQ answer on the holiday schedule is one sentence: when a holiday falls on a regular trash day, the city's contractor picks up the following Saturday. The pages checked for this guide do not list the holidays that will move a Wednesday.

These rules are the ones the city publishes for service inside Fulshear city limits. The city pages do not describe haulers for addresses outside those limits.
