What the 2025 estimate says
QuickFacts lists Fulshear city, Texas, at 64,630 in the Vintage 2025 population estimate for July 1, 2025. The Census Bureau says a vintage covers the series from 2020 through 2025, and that estimates from different vintages are not comparable. The 64,630 figure is not a new full census count.
Earlier census counts
The same QuickFacts table lists the April 1, 2020 census at 16,856 and the April 1, 2010 census at 1,134. It also lists a Vintage 2025 estimates base of 16,269 for April 1, 2020. That base is the starting point for the estimates. It is not the same number as the 2020 census count.
The 297.3 percent change on QuickFacts runs from that April 1, 2020 estimates base to July 1, 2025. It does not mean the 16,856 census count grew by 297.3 percent.
Second-fastest growing city of 20,000 or more
On May 14, 2026, the Census Bureau released the Vintage 2025 city and town estimates. Table 3 ranks the 15 fastest-growing cities and towns with populations of 20,000 or more from July 1, 2024, to July 1, 2025. The table note says that 20,000 threshold uses the July 1, 2024 population. Fulshear is second: a 21.0 percent increase, and a July 1, 2025 population of 64,630. Celina, Texas, is first, at 24.6 percent and 64,427 people.
The release says the top five cities on that list were all in Texas. Four are in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburbs, and the fifth, Fulshear, is outside Houston. Table 4 ranks numeric gains for the same size group. Fulshear added 11,196 people, seventh on that list.
How news outlets reported it
USA Today's May 14, 2026, story lists Fulshear at 64,630, a 21 percent increase, second among the Texas cities on the Census Bureau's fastest-growing list. Houston Public Media the same day said Fulshear, in metro Houston, was the second-fastest-growing U.S. city with 20,000 residents or more from mid-2024 to mid-2025.
Axios Houston on May 21, 2026, described Fulshear as about 40 minutes west of Houston, past Katy. It said Fulshear ranked second among suburbs and mid-sized cities for the third year in a row, added nearly 11,200 residents, and was home to nearly 65,000 people. Those rounded figures track the census tables. The "third year in a row" line is Axios's, not a line in the May 14 census release.
In that same May 14 release, Census Bureau statistician Matt Erickson said midsized cities found a "Goldilocks zone" where domestic and international migration, paired with new housing, avoided the slower growth of small towns and larger metropolitan centers. The Associated Press, reporting the same estimates, said nine of the ten largest numeric gainers were in the South because of a healthy job market and comparative affordability. That sentence is about the South's numeric gainers, not a Fulshear-only study.
County and land area
The City of Fulshear's about page says the city is in northwest Fort Bend County, at FM 359 and FM 1093. QuickFacts lists 12.03 square miles of land in 2020 and 8.09 in 2010, and 1,400.8 people per square mile in 2020 compared with 140.2 in 2010. Those density figures use the census counts for those years, not the July 1, 2025 estimate.
QuickFacts also reports a mean travel time to work of 37.8 minutes and a median household income of $187,035 in 2024 dollars, both from the 2020–2024 American Community Survey. Those survey figures are not the Vintage 2025 population estimate, and the bureau says different sources should not be compared as if they were the same measurement.
