Key facts

  • Who: Fort Bend County Precinct 1 (2023 Mobility Bond) and the City of Fulshear.
  • What: Design of a Fulshear Bend Drive extension from Woods Road to FM 359, plus a 10-foot right-of-way donation along Woods Road.
  • When: 70% design plans were expected in late October 2026. No construction date has been set.
  • Where: Fulshear Bend Drive between Woods Road and FM 359, and the city's Woods Road water plant site.
  • What it means for residents: Another east-west link to FM 359 is on the way, but it's still on paper. Right-of-way work comes next, then bidding.

Fulshear Bend Drive is set to reach FM 359. Fort Bend County is designing an extension of the road from Woods Road east to FM 359 as part of its 2023 Mobility Bond program, and the county's latest status report shows the work is getting close to the halfway mark on paper.

Where the design stands

The county's Precinct 1 bond report lists the project with a mobility budget of $3,920,000. Engineering firm IDS is doing the design.

In August, the Fort Bend County Drainage District gave preliminary approval to the project's drainage report. By the Sept. 15 update, designers were working toward 70% plans, which were expected in late October. The county was also finishing the legal land descriptions it needs to start buying right-of-way, with those expected this month.

A few details stand out in the report:

  • A lift station the City of Fulshear plans to build is shown on the road's design layouts, so the two projects are being planned together.
  • The county is coordinating with a developer that's already building along Woods Road so the new road ties in cleanly.
  • In August, the county noted that right-of-way still had to be worked out where the road meets FM 359, comparing the highway's current line with its future one.

No bid or construction date has been announced.

A separate step on Woods Road

At its Oct. 20 meeting, Fulshear City Council had a consent item to let the mayor sign a deed giving Fort Bend County a 10-foot strip of right-of-way along Woods Road. The strip comes off the city's Woods Road Water Plant property, which the city took over from Municipal Utility District 222 (Tamarron West). According to the city's agenda memo, the donation was part of the understanding when the city accepted the plant, and the land is meant for a future widening of Woods Road.

The city hasn't posted the meeting's minutes yet, so the final vote isn't on record.

What's next

Once 70% plans are in, the county can move ahead with right-of-way purchases and final design. Updates show up in the Precinct 1 monthly mobility report on the county's website.
